Itinerary
Day 1: Los Angeles / Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Depart Los Angeles for an overnight flight via Miami to Rio de Janeiro.
Day 2: Rio de Janeiro (B/L/D)
Arrive early morning in Rio de Janeiro. Warm welcome and greetings from your tour guide. First, a cable car will take you to the summit of Sugarloaf to have a better view of the Municipal Theatre, the Candelaria Church and Sao Benito Monastery. Then will continue to the edge of Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon, which meets the Copacabana Beach. At night stay in Rio.
Day 3: Rio de Janeiro (B/L/D)
Today, you make your way through the cobblestone streets of Paineiras to the city of Corcovado and the statue of Christ the Redeemer. In the afternoon, you will visit the exterior of the Maracana Soccer Stadium, the largest in the world (Outside visit only. Entrance requires fee not included in this package).
Day 4: Rio de Janeiro / Iguassu (B/L/D)
Fly to Iguassu Falls in the morning, which is more spectacular than Niagara Falls. This afternoon's excursion will be made to the Itaipu Dam, the biggest hydroelectric power station in South America, a joint project between Brazil and Paraguay.
Day 5: Iguassu Falls (B/L/D)
Today, a full day escorted walking tour to the Brazilian side of the falls through path footbridges and belvederes, all strategically placed to give the tourist the best view to see each and every fall. A panoramic elevator was built to reach the bottom of the falls. The falls are made up of 275 individual falls over a mile and a half long crescent where torrents of water plunge down to the basin below. The tallest "cataract" (fall) is 230 feet high.
Day 6: Iguassu Falls / Manaus / Amazon Cruise (B/L/D)
Fly to Manaus in the early morning to embark on the Amazon River Cruise. We will meet our cruise company at the lobby of the Tropical Hotel at 2PM. We begin the process of boarding and depart toward the Amazon River while we enjoy a welcome drink and listen to the information about route and facilities. After a snack, we meet onboard in the leisure room for lecture about Amazon where we will get a good start on understanding Amazon ecology while the vessel takes us the Amazon upstream. Before dinner we may already ordered a caipirinha, the national drink of Brazil. After dinner we will explore the river's edge with powerful searchlights and we see caiman, close relatives of crocodile, sometimes including night-hawks, snakes, toro-rats, sloth and fogs.
Day 7: Amazon Cruise (B/L/D)
The day begins by cruising on the Janauaca Lake and start an early exploration by canoe of the walking forest. We will keep our eyes open for birds and enjoy the Pink River Dolphins. We return for breakfast followed by a walk in the forest and a visit to the inhabitants of the lake who earn a living on manioc plantations, fishing, diverse fruit trees, rubber, Brazil-nut trees, wood and other extractive products. The piranha fishing in late afternoon is not only for passionate anglers, there are good chances of seeing Hoatzins and large flocks of egerets. After dinner we will explore the forest in our canoes with the possibility of observing nocturnal animals and admire the millions of stars and constellations of the southern hemisphere.
Day 8: Amazon Cruise / Manaus (B/L/D)
A last chance for bird-watching and good opportunity to see the Victoria Regia, the giant water lilies in the January Ecological Park. We explore the mysterious flooded forest by canoe or walking on catwalk, observing wildlife in the trees and in the water. While we enjoy breakfast the boat starts navigation toward the "Meeting of the Waters". A unique spectacle where the bright colored water of the Amazon and the dark water of the Negro flows side without mixing for many miles. Now we return to the Tropical landing stage while we past Manaus port, with views of the floating docks, market, old custom house and the dome of the Opera house, arring at 11:30 AM. We will fly to Manaus, begin your Manaus city tour.
Day 9: Manaus / Miami / Los Angeles (B/L/D)
Manaus city tour in the morning. In the afternoon, transfer to the airport take the flight via Miami to Los Angeles.
Day 10: Los Angeles
Today your homebound flight will bring you back to Los Angeles at midnight to complete this pleasant trip!
